The World Garden

The World Garden:

Growing the next generation of gardeners

“The love of gardening is a seed once sown that never dies.”  Gertrude Jekyll (garden designer)

Our current project is the St. Benedict’s World Garden.

This will be situated at the foot of the field, and will stretch some fifty metres across.  It was agreed at a recent World Garden team meeting that it will be split into three distinct parts (please see plan) and will encompass an area for growing produce and flowers (to cut and spread colour throughout school).

The underlying remit of the garden is to develop positive mental health in the school community – through giving pupils, parents and staff opportunities and purpose to get outside and be at one with nature.

Gardening is good for the soul and we want our pupils outside learning this for themselves.

“To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow.”

Audrey Hepburn (actor)
