Welcome to Leopard Class - Year 6
Mrs Brown, Mrs Allen and Mrs Redman
It has been a wonderful start to Year 6. The children have all settled quickly into their new class and are working hard – an excellent beginning to Year 6.
We have already worked with parents at our Reading Inspire Workshop. Our topic for the Autumn term is Victorians and we are researching what life was like for children during this era. We have studied Queen Victoria and her family producing a PowerPoint that we will be presenting to each other over the next few months.
The most exciting part of our topic so far this term was a visit to Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s SS Great Britain in Bristol which was extremely interesting and informative. It was great to use artefacts and evidence from journals and diaries to build a picture of different characters that sailed on the SS Great Britain during her service.
Our next exciting trip will be the Year 6 residential to London and visiting The Houses of Parliament as well as many other great landscapes of our capital city. We now have confirmation that the date will be from Thursday 27th to Friday 28th February with an overnight stay in St Paul’s. Year 6 will be involved in fundraising with a view to keeping the cost of this trip as affordable as possible. Please come and support us by playing our games at the Christmas Fair!
As with previous years, children will be expected to learn their spellings at home and bring spelling books back to school on a Monday. Children should read at least 5 times a week, recording in their new reading record.
